When a counsellor chooses to become accredited, they undertake advanced training which is examined by the BACP in conjuction with the counsellors real time experience. If you are referred to a counsellor by your employer or an employment related scheme, these checks have all been completed before the counsellor is allowed to see you. If you are referring yourself, then ask to see evidence of the counsellor's qualifications. The minimum qulaification you should look for is a dilpoma in counselling. It should also be accompanied by a current insurance certificate.

How regularly should I attend?
After your initial session you can discuss this with your counsellor. If your sessions are being financed by an employer or insurance firm, there may be some requirements you need to fulfil. Obviously if you are financing yourself, you can be more flexible. Your counsellor will always advise if necessary.

What will I have to pay?
All fees will be discussed and agreed before you come along. If you are self financing you should remember that you will be expected to pay for cancelled appointments if you give less than 24 hours notice.
